A nine-night guided audio program

The knot isn't in your bank account. It's in what happens to you when you open it.

The arithmetic that starts before you're out of bed. The tightening when a notification comes through. Checking the price before you check whether you even want the thing.

Unknot is eight minutes of guided audio a night, for nine nights, built to loosen that grip. Not to make money appear — to make thinking about it less punishing.

You already know the pattern. You just haven't had a name for it.

It isn't only about the balance. Two people with the same number in the account can live completely different lives inside their own heads. What differs is the alarm — how loud it is, how early it starts, how long it takes to switch off.

  • You put off opening the banking app, then open it six times in an hour.
  • Money coming in doesn't feel like relief. It feels like a countdown.
  • Something good happens and you immediately brace for the bill behind it.
  • You can't spend on yourself without a running commentary about whether you're allowed to.
  • The argument in your house is never really about the amount. It's about the fear under it.

If most of that lands, you're not weak with money and you're not bad at maths. You have a nervous system that learned, a long time ago, to treat money as a threat.

Where the knot comes from

Children learn money before anyone explains it to them. They learn it from the tone at the kitchen table when an envelope arrives. From watching a parent go quiet. From sentences repeated so often they stop sounding like opinions: people like us don't get that. Money changes people. Don't get your hopes up.

None of it is taught deliberately. It's absorbed — years before you had the words to question it. And what gets absorbed isn't a belief you can argue with. It's a reflex. Which is exactly why arguing with it has never worked.

That's the whole idea behind the name. What most people inherit isn't property or debt. It's a set of automatic responses to money, handed down by ordinary people doing their best under pressure. A knot someone else tied, that you've been carrying without knowing it could be loosened.

Let's be exact about what this is not

  • Nothing is wrong with your DNA. Unknot makes no claim about genes, cells, or biology.
  • There is no curse, no generational block, and nothing being cleansed or removed from you.
  • There are no special frequencies, no subliminal messages, and nothing hidden in the audio.
  • Nothing here is suppressed, censored, or about to be taken offline. This page will still be here tomorrow, at this price.

A learned reflex is a far less dramatic explanation than a curse. It's also the only one that gives you somewhere to start.

What Unknot actually is

Nine recorded audio sessions of eight minutes each, inside a small web app. A calm voice, a paced breathing rhythm, progressive muscle relaxation, and one short reflective prompt per session about a specific money reflex — the bracing, the checking, the flinch before a purchase.

That's the entire product. No course to get through, nothing to memorise, no journal to keep up with.

Why an app and not a folder of files? For one practical reason: so you don't have to decide anything. It opens on tonight's session, dims the screen when you press play, and doesn't ask you to remember which day you're on. That's the only advantage it has over a set of MP3s, and we're not going to claim a bigger one.

Why headphones and a dim room? Fewer things competing for your attention. It's easier to stay with a breathing exercise for eight minutes in the dark with headphones on. There's no mechanism beyond that. It works in a lit room too.

Why nine nights? Short enough to actually finish, long enough for the sessions to stop feeling unfamiliar. Nine is a starting point, not a threshold. Nothing switches on at the end of it.

The commitment, in full

Eight minutes. Nine nights. Then it's over.

Nine nights that look identical because they are. Same length, same routine, a different subject each night. Seventy-two minutes in total — less than one evening in front of the television.

If you miss a night, you pick up where you left off. Nothing resets, and nothing is wasted. You can repeat the whole thing as often as you want, for as long as you own it.

What it can do, and what it can't

What it can do

  • Give you a short, repeatable way to bring your body down at the end of the day.
  • Make it easier to settle at night when your head is running numbers.
  • Put a little distance between a money worry and your reaction to it — enough to decide instead of react.
  • Give you language for a pattern you've carried without ever naming.

What it can't do

  • It will not create income, attract money, or change anything about your financial situation.
  • It is not a treatment for anxiety, depression, or any medical or psychological condition, and it is not a substitute for professional care.
  • It is not financial advice, and it will not fix a budget that doesn't balance.
  • It cannot promise you'll feel differently. Relaxation practice helps a lot of people. It doesn't help everybody, and it may do nothing for you.

We'd rather tell you that now than have you find out after you've paid. That's what the refund window is for.

What's inside the app

Four screens. Nothing else, and nothing you have to configure.

Library

The nine sessions

Eight minutes each, streamed in the app or downloaded as MP3 if you'd rather keep them. The screen dims itself when you press play. Yours to keep and repeat as often as you like.

Home

Your map

Seven questions about what money sounded like in the house you grew up in, and which reflexes you took from it. Your answers stay on the home screen so you're not starting from scratch each night. It's a reflection exercise, not a diagnostic test — it doesn't measure anything about you and it isn't a psychological assessment.

Journey

The nine nights, one at a time

Tonight's session, in order, without you having to track where you are. Miss a night and it waits for you. If you'd rather have it on paper, the same schedule prints on one page.

Signs

What people notice first

A short daily note on what tends to come up first — usually sleep and evening tension, well before anything else. These are subjective observations from people who've used the program, not outcomes we're promising you.

Who this is for

Adults who recognise the pattern above, who are willing to sit still for eight minutes a night, and who want a calmer relationship with money rather than a shortcut to more of it.

Who this isn't for

  • Anyone looking for a way to make money. This is not that, in any form.
  • Anyone in genuine financial crisis. Talk to a free debt advice service in your country first — that will help you far more than we can.
  • Anyone currently being treated for a mental health condition, unless your clinician is happy for you to add a relaxation practice. Please ask them first.
  • Anyone who wants proof that a specific result is coming. We don't have that, and neither does anyone else selling you one.

Questions

Is there anything hidden in the audio?

No. It's a voice, a breathing pace, and quiet background sound. Nothing subliminal, nothing embedded, no tuned frequency, nothing you can't hear.

Do I have to download it from an app store?

No. Unknot opens in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer. You get a link, save it to your home screen if you want, and that's it.

Do I have to do it in the dark?

No. It's a suggestion, because a dim room makes it easier to concentrate. The app dims its own screen during playback, and it works fine in a lit room.

I've tried meditation apps and couldn't stick with them.

That's common, and it's usually about length and vagueness. These are eight minutes, always the same length, with a specific subject each night, and it ends after nine. If it still doesn't suit you, take the refund — that's a completely reasonable outcome and we won't make it awkward.

Will this help me earn more?

No, and we won't imply otherwise. What some people report is being able to think about money without the panic that used to come with it. What you then do about your finances is up to you.

Is this religious?

No. There's nothing spiritual, devotional or doctrinal in it, and nothing that would conflict with any faith. It's breathing and reflection.

How do I get a refund?

Tap refund in the app, or email support@yourdomain.com, within 60 days of purchase. We aim to process refunds within five working days.

About

Who made this

Unknot was put together by It came out of a long-standing interest in why money worry outlives the circumstances that caused it, and it draws on well-established relaxation techniques — paced breathing and progressive muscle relaxation — which have been in ordinary clinical and everyday use for decades.

No original research is claimed here, and no scientific discovery is being announced. These are common techniques, arranged around one specific subject.
